The inventory numbers for the Daily Journals of Batavia Castle are presented here secondly in the English language. During this first translation exercise decisions were taken concerning the correct translation of archivist terminology. Some antiquarian Dutch words will eventually be included in a glossary of professional and historical words and terminology. Terminology like official titles is standardized and will hopefully be used by all researchers. For instance, a term like ‘Hoge Regering’ is sometimes translated as ‘High Government’. In this inventory the term ‘Supreme Government’ has been chosen as the ‘Hoge Regering’ was the highest government over the VOC in Asia.
